Blind spots in your vision look like small gaps or holes where you cannot see anything.
A blind spot is an area in your vision where you lose detail and see nothing, almost as if a little part of a picture is missing. Most people have a natural blind spot where the optic nerve connects to the back of the eye; your brain usually fills in this gap so you don’t notice it. However, sometimes additional blind spots appear due to eye problems. These extra blind spots might look like holes or dark patches in your view when you look at a scene. Researchers make detailed maps of these areas in our visual field, and they appear as regions where no visual information is processed. Even though these areas are not normally noticed because your eyes and brain work together to hide the gap, if you suddenly see a blind spot that wasn’t there before, it could feel like a gap in your visual world. If you notice any new areas where you don’t see clearly, it is a good idea to visit an eye care professional for a full examination.
