What's Causing My Severe Itchy Skin and Forehead Bumps?

Question background

20s, Female

For the last few days, I have experienced very itchy skin, and when I scratch it, it burns. My face itches severely but burns when I scratch, and the same applies to the rest of my body. I now also have tiny bumps on my forehead. My head also itches severely and makes my scalp burn when scratched as well. What could be going on?

Question background

Dr. Taylor’s Response

I understand you're experiencing intense itching and burning sensations on your skin, along with tiny bumps on your forehead. This sounds uncomfortable and concerning. While I can't provide a specific diagnosis, I can share some general information about potential causes for these symptoms:

  • Allergic reaction (to food, medication, or environmental factors)
  • Contact dermatitis (from irritants like new soaps or lotions)
  • Eczema flare-up
  • Viral rash (like chickenpox in adults)
  • Fungal infection
  • Scabies (mite infestation)
  • Hives
  • Dry skin exacerbated by weather changes

Given the sudden onset and widespread nature of your symptoms, I recommend seeing a healthcare provider, preferably a dermatologist, as soon as possible. They can properly examine your skin and provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

In the meantime:

  • Avoid scratching as much as possible
  • Use gentle, fragrance-free moisturizers
  • Take cool showers instead of hot ones
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing
  • Avoid any new skincare products or potential allergens

Remember, persistent or severe skin issues warrant professional medical attention. Your skin health is important, and a healthcare provider can offer the best guidance for your specific situation. Take care, and I hope you find relief soon!
