Can you die from asthma?

While deaths from asthma attacks have been on the decline in the Untied States, it is still important to understand that an asthma attack can be fatal. In order to prevent asthma attacks from occurring or escalating, it is important to have an asthma action plan which often contains the following:

1. Asthma Control: Ensure your asthma is well controlled, which for some people means using an inhaler or other medication daily.
2. Triggers: Understanding your triggers (viral infections, pets, pollen, etc.) that make your asthma worse
3. Plan: Knowing what to do if you are experiencing worsening symptoms or an asthma attack so you know what medications to increase or start taking while seeking emergency medical services quickly.
