Most helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections result in no symptoms.
Infection with h. pylori often occurs early in children with few or no symptoms. Infection is generally thought to last a lifetime though some people have cleared the disease without treatment. A smaller subset of adults will develop symptoms and chronic gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining). If these symptoms develop, treating h. pylori infection is necessary through a combination of antibiotics and medications that slow down acid production in the stomach.
