Right side chest pain is usually not as strongly linked to serious heart problems as left side chest pain, but it still needs to be checked by a healthcare provider to find out its cause.
When you feel pain on the right side of your chest, it often comes from causes that are not heart-related. Studies have shown that heart problems more commonly cause pain on the left side, so right side pain is more likely due to things like muscle strain, inflammation of the chest wall, or lung issues. For instance, conditions like pleuritic chest pain (pain that happens when the lining of the lung gets angry) or even hyperventilation syndrome (where breathing too fast causes discomfort) can lead to pain on the right side. There’s also a condition called Mondor's disease that affects the chest wall, and it can cause pain on the right side too. However, even though right side chest pain is less likely to be from a heart attack, any chest pain that comes on suddenly or is severe should be taken seriously. If you experience right side chest pain with other symptoms, it is important to see a doctor who can help decide if it is nothing serious or something that needs treatment.
