Both medications are good options for symptom relief from a sore throat.
Acetaminophen© or Ibuprofen, which treat fever and pain, are often effective against sore throats as well. Both medications will not treat the underlying cause of the sore throat like a viral infection. As the medication wears off, the sore throat will return so repeated dosing is often necessary and safe. If the sore throat is severe or persists beyond 5-7 days, it is important to seek further medical evaluation for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
