What is pyogenic granuloma?

Pyogenic granulomas are small, raised, red skin bumps. They bleed easily due to the large number of blood vessels at the site. These growths are noncancerous (benign) and typically form as a result of an injury.

Symptoms of pyogenic granuloma

  • Bumps containing pus

  • Sores or ulcers of the skin

Questions your doctor may ask to check for pyogenic granuloma

Your doctor may ask these questions to diagnose pyogenic granuloma

  • Do you have bumps on your skin with pus?

  • Do you have skin ulcers (sores)?

Treatment for pyogenic granuloma

For pyogenic granulomas in non-visible areas, for adults and children who can tolerate local anesthesia, surgical removal is generally suggested. However, if these growths are in visible areas, a less invasive removal like a small shaving or laser therapy is preferred.
