A big red bump on your lip might be a benign vascular lesion, such as a hemangioma or pyogenic granuloma, though other causes are also possible.
The red bump you see on your lip can be due to a small, benign (non-cancerous) collection of blood vessels. This type of bump is called a vascular lesion, and one common type is a hemangioma. Hemangiomas are usually harmless and may appear as bright red spots or bumps. They can be present at birth or develop later in life. Another common cause is a pyogenic granuloma. This condition typically starts as a small, bright red lesion that rapidly grows into a raised bump that can bleed easily. Sometimes, trauma from biting your lip or other minor injuries can also make a red bump appear temporarily. It is important to have any unusual lesion evaluated by a medical professional if it changes, grows, or causes other symptoms. This helps rule out any rare but more serious conditions.
