Cystitis, which is an inflammation of the bladder often caused by a urinary tract infection (UTI), typically cannot be cured overnight with treatment. While antibiotics can start to relieve symptoms within a day or two, complete resolution of the infection may take longer, depending on the severity and individual response to treatment.
Cystitis is commonly caused by bacterial infections, leading to symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, burning sensation during urination, and pelvic discomfort. The most common treatment for cystitis is a course of antibiotics, which target the bacteria causing the infection.
When antibiotics are prescribed for uncomplicated cystitis, patients may begin to notice symptom relief within 24 to 48 hours after starting treatment. However, this does not mean the infection is completely cured overnight.
Several factors can influence how quickly a person recovers from cystitis:
If symptoms persist beyond a few days of treatment, worsen, or if new symptoms develop (such as fever, chills, or flank pain), it is important to seek medical attention. This could indicate that the infection is not responding to the initial treatment or that there may be complications.
