If you're not pregnant, missing your period for two months could come from your body not making the right hormones due to stress, weight changes, or too much exercise.
When your period stops for a long time and you're not pregnant, one common idea is called hypothalamic amenorrhea. This happens when your brain (the hypothalamus) sends fewer signals to your ovaries, which makes it hard for your body to have a normal period. This can occur if you’re very stressed, have lost a lot of weight, or if you exercise a lot. All of these factors can make your body think it doesn’t have the energy it needs for a regular cycle. Other issues like hormone imbalances from conditions affecting your thyroid or ovaries might also cause this problem. Sometimes, when your body is trying to adjust to a new balance between energy, stress, and hormones, it doesn’t produce the cycle you expect. If you find yourself missing periods for a couple of months and are concerned, it’s a good idea to talk with a healthcare provider. They can help check your hormone levels and overall health to figure out what might be causing the delayed period and guide you on the best next steps.
