Sometimes, yes—it can be normal to have what looks like two periods in one month, but it can also be a sign of hormonal changes.
For many women, a regular period happens once a month. However, if your menstrual cycle is shorter than usual, you might notice bleeding twice within one calendar month. This can happen when your cycle is naturally shorter such that the end of one cycle and the start of another fall within the same month. Your body’s hormones control the cycle, so if they are changing — due to stress, weight changes, or a condition like polycystic ovary syndrome—it might lead to extra or early bleeding. Irregular periods are particularly common during the hormonal changes of puberty and perimenopause. Although occasional extra bleeding might be normal for some women, if you start seeing this regularly or if the bleeding is heavy or associated with pain, you should discuss with a healthcare provider.
