This treatment works by increasing blood flow to the area, which brings healing immune cells and also helps reduce inflammation. To do a warm soak at home, fill a small basin with warm water at a comfortable temperature – not too hot, so you don’t burn your skin. You can add a little salt if you want to help reduce the swelling further. Soak your foot for about 15 minutes. After the soak, gently dry your foot with a clean towel. Once the nail is soft, you might be able to carefully lift the edge of the nail away from the skin with a clean tool or a piece of cotton, very gently, to relieve pressure. Repeat this process two to three times a day, and always make sure your soak basin is clean to avoid any chance of further infection.
