This is a condition caused by infection or changes in the balance of healthy vaginal bacteria. It can be caused by sexually transmitted diseases although aging and vaginal dryness is also a common cause.

Itching around the genital area
Abnormal vaginal discharge e.g. in color, smell, or quantity
Increase in vaginal discharge
Thick white vaginal discharge
Been sexually active with multiple partners during the past 1 month
Your doctor may ask these questions to diagnose vaginitis
Does the vaginal discharge smell worse recently?
Do you have any itch in and around your vagina?
Do you have any concerns regarding change in your vaginal discharge (color, volume or odor)?
Have you experienced increased vaginal discharge recently?
Do you have a thick white vaginal discharge like cottage cheese or yogurt?
Treatment depends on the cause. Options include steroid creams, antibiotics or antifungal medicines. In some cases, this condition is caused by low female hormone (estrogen) levels, hence estrogen creams may be helpful.
