It is a type of chronic arthritis, usually chronic rheumatoid arthritis which occurs due to excessive production or reduced clearance of uric acid which accumulate as uric acid crystals in the joints. Risk factors include genetics, excessive Alcohol consumption, Diet with excessive sugars or protiens, certain medications and male sex.
