Hearing loss due to loud noises. It results from exposure to loud noise over a long period of time, or from a once-off exposure to an extremely loud noise.
Hearing difficulty
Frequent exposure to loud noise
Ringing in the ears
High-pitched tinnitus / ringing sounds in the ear
Your doctor may ask these questions to diagnose noise induced hearing loss
Do you have hearing problems?
Have you ever been exposed to loud noises, such as at a construction site or live concert?
Do you have tinnitus (ringing in the ears)?
Do you have a ringing sound like high pitched metallic tone or shriek/whistling in your ear?
In cases of once-off exposures to loud noises, steroids may help to reduce the degree of hearing loss. However, in cases of loud noise exposure over a long time, treatment cannot reverse the hearing loss. Hearing aids can help if the symptoms are bothersome.
