Questions your doctor may ask to check for suffocation

Your doctor may ask these questions to diagnose suffocation

  • Have you currently regained consciousness after temporarily losing consciousness?

  • Did you swallow any small object(s)?

  • Are you breathless or having hard time breathing?

  • Do you look more pale, wan or sickly than usual?

  • Did your face turn pale for a moment (then recovered)?

Treatment for suffocation

Treatment for asphyxiation depends on the cause. It may include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the Heimlich maneuver, which is a first aid technique for choking, oxygen therapy, and medications.
