What is cardiac tamponade?

Cardiac tamponade is a serious medical emergency where blood or fluid fills the space around your heart, compressing your heart and preventing it from pumping blood to other organs effectively.

Treatment for cardiac tamponade

It is a medical emergency and the fluid compressing on the heart has to be removed as soon as possible. Pericardiocentesis is the most common procedure offered by doctors to remove the fluid and treat the cardiac tamponade. The drainage of the fluid is performed using a needle and a small catheter.
