Cardiac tamponade is a severe medical emergency where blood or fluid fills the space around your heart, compressing it and preventing it from effectively pumping blood to other organs.
Feeling breathless
Fatigue
Chest tightness
Your doctor may ask these questions to diagnose cardiac tamponade
Are you breathless or having hard time breathing?
Do you feel fatigued?
Do you have chest tightness?
This is a medical emergency, and the fluid compressing the heart must be removed as soon as possible. Pericardiocentesis is the most common procedure doctors use to remove the fluid and treat cardiac tamponade. Fluid drainage is performed using a needle and a small catheter.
