What is panic attack?

An anxiety disorder in which a person has repeated and often unexpected panic attacks. These panic attacks involve a sudden onset of intense fearfulness in the absence of danger and includes physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, difficulty breathing, chest pain or discomfort, choking or smothering sensations, sweating, and dizziness.

Symptoms of panic attack

  • Trembling of fingers or whole body

  • Episodes of sudden, severe anxiety or fear

  • Feeling breathless

  • Fears that are sometimes irrational or illogical

  • Fearing that if the breathlessness continues, death is imminent

  • Numbness anywhere from the knees to the ankles

  • Numbness of the thigh

  • Decreased sensation over skin
