About the Symptom
Axillary pain, or pain under armpit, is a painful sensation in one or both armpits. The axilla refers to the armpit, and this armpit pain can be pressing, sharp, or dull, typically caused by muscle strain or swollen lymph nodes. Pain under left armpit or pain under right armpit in females may also be caused by hormonal changes.
Possible Causes
Generally, Pain under armpit can be related to:
- Filariasis
Filariasis is a tropical, parasitic disease that impacts the lymph nodes and lymph vessels. The parasite is carried by mosquitoes and spreads to humans through mosquito bites.
- Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic skin condition characterized by painful nodules and abscesses in the skin's folds.
- Shingles (Herpes Zoster)
