Aortic aneurysms is a balloon-like enlargement in the major vessel that supplies blood to the body (aorta). They might rupture and bleed, which can be life-threatening. Aneurysms can develop anywhere along the aorta, but are most commonly in the lower portion of the aorta. Common causes include high blood pressure, fat build-up in the artery, infections, trauma or blood vessel diseases.
Aortic dissection is a medical emergency. It is caused by a tear in the inner layer of the main artery of the body (the aorta). It can affect anyone but most common in men in their 60s and 70s. Risk factors include high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, weakened and bulging artery (aneurysm).
