This rare, inherited, lifelong condition causes blistering rashes on the skin, particularly in skin folds like armpits or genitals. It results from a gene defect in cells that help skin cells stick together. Factors that worsen the condition include sunlight, sweat, heat, and friction. It can develop at any age but typically appears in the third or fourth decade of life.
