Leiomyomas or fibroids are non-cancerous growths from the muscle that can occur in any organ, but commonly in the uterus during a woman's reproductive years. The exact cause is unknown. Risk factors include a positive family history of fibroids, obesity, or early onset of puberty in the case of uterine fibroids.
