What is Parkinson's Disease?

A progressive nervous system disorder affecting movement. It occurs due to nerve cell damage in the brain. The exact cause for PD is unknown. Risk factors include genetics, male gender, old age, and exposure to certain toxins and environmental factors.

Typical Symptoms of Parkinson's Disease

  • Trembling of fingers or whole body

  • Fine tremor of the hands and fingers

  • Stiff, rigid muscles causing difficulty bending joints

  • Unable to turn over when lying down

  • Falling frequently

  • Having difficulty writing out words

  • Speech that does not make sense, or behavior that is strange

  • Symptoms started with tremors of the fingers and/or toes
