He has served in the National Center for Global Health and Medicine Hospital and Kohnodai Hospital and joined Hamasaki Clinic in April 2017. What is Subacute Thyroiditis?
Inflammation of the thyroid gland which causes high levels of thyroid hormone in the body. It usually occurs after a viral infection. It presents as pain in the neck because of the swollen and inflamed thyroid gland. Can also have difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, fatigue and fever. It can also go on to cause symptoms of high thyroid hormone such as weight loss, increased bowel movements, palpitations, sweating.

Neck swelling

Neck pain or stiffness
Difficulty swallowing food or water

Treatmentof Subacute Thyroiditis
The goal of treatment is to reduce pain and treat hyperthyroidism, if it occurs. Steroids such as prednisone can also be used. Symptoms of an overactive thyroid are treated with a class of drugs called beta-blockers and if the thyroid becomes underactive during the recovery phase, thyroid hormone replacement may be needed.
