Toxoplasmosis is caused by an infection with the Toxoplasma gondii parasite. Infection typically occurs from eating undercooked contaminated meat, exposure to infected cat feces, or mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy.

Treatment for toxoplasmosis

Most healthy individuals recover from toxoplasmosis with minimal or no symptoms and no treatment. Those who are ill or have a weak immune system may receive a combination of drugs such as antibiotics, anti-parasitic drugs, and other medications to alleviate symptoms. However, the best approach is prevention by avoiding exposure during pregnancy or if your immune system is weakened. People with weakened immune systems may be prescribed preventive medication.
