About the symptom

A subjective sensation of warmth that is accompanied by reddening of the skin on the face.

Possible causes

  • Rosacea

    A skin condition, which also often involves flushing. The exact cause is unclear, but genetics, immune system reactions and exposure to sunlight appear to be involved.

  • Cushing syndrome

    This condition is caused by excessive amounts of a hormone called cortisol. This may be caused consumption of some steroid medications or the body itself may produce too much cortisol.

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

    An autoimmune disease, caused by the body's own immune system attacking organs and cells in the body. The exact cause is unclear, but risk factors include female gender, childbearing age, and heredity.
