About the symptom

It refers to painful sensation of the muscle or limb when held firmly.

When to see a doctor

Seek professional care if you experience any of the following symptoms

  • Muscle tenderness in limbs

Possible causes

  • Fibromyalgia

A condition that causes diffuse pain and muscle aches across the body. The cause is poorly understood.

  • Gout / pseudogout

Gout and pseudogout are a group of diseases which are caused by the inflammation and accumulation of crystals in the joints. Gout is caused by accumulation of uric acid crystals, and pseudogout by calcium pyrophosphatecrystals. They are characterized by sudden painful swelling in one or more joints. Gout attacks may be caused by eating foods rich in purines such as seafood, alcohol and red meat, while pseudogout could be due to joint injury, surgery or immune problems.

  • Thrombophlebitis

  • Piriformis syndrome

Related serious diseases
